Vanguard Drive pedestrian bridge, City of Cape Town, January 2005 to December 2005, $ZAR6.6 m, Engineer’s Representative, ASCH Consulting Engineers
The purpose of this project is to provide safe pedestrian linkage between the residents in Langa and Vanguard Community Health Centre in Bonteheuwel, which currently are separated by a Public Main Road (M7 Vanguard Drive). The project comprises a new pedestrian footbridge across the existing M7 Vanguard Drive between Bluegum and Washington Streets and a new footbridge over the Jakkalsvlei canal. The project will link economically deprived residential areas of Bonteheuwel and Langa in the greater metropolitan area of the City of Cape Town. Rodney was the Engineer’s Representative responsible for all aspects of contract administration and he was responsible for the provision of technical advice to the Contractor during the construction phase, including reviewing detailed design documentation and shop drawings on site. Rodney was also the Design Engineer during the detailed design of the project. He also assisted the Engineer to the project during the tender assessment and recommendations.
