Southern Freight Link, Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC), April 2012 – September 2012, $244 m, Construction Support Co-ordinator, Alliance Contract ARTC – Leightons
The SFL is a 36km, bi-directional, non-electrified, dedicated freight line from Macarthur to Sefton Park Junction in south western Sydney. It will connect with the Metropolitan Freight Network (MFN) at Sefton Park Junction and links with freight only connections to Chullora, Enfield, Port Botany and Flemington.
The project included an array of new bridges and bridge extensions, construction of a rail line flyover and complex dive structure, upgrading of six stations, and the widening of cuttings and embankments.
Rodney’s duties included: responding to RFIs, reviewing temporary works requests (TWRs), providing on site structural support during possession works, detail design where changes were requested by site, resolving non conformances (NCRs). As second in charge of a team of 17 engineers and drafters, other duties included: resource scheduling for weekend works, chairing team meetings, reviewing minutes and timesheets and managing the team during absence of the construction support manager. Project administration was via web based software Keystone.
A particular highlight was Rodney’s onsite support at an essential weekend possession for the casting of the Glenfield flyover bridge deck.
